Over the weekend we took a trip to Brunswick, Maryland. It’s a short trip, just up the road from Leesburg, VA. It’s a railroad town and home to CSX’s Brunswick Yard, a classification yard along the old Baltimore & Ohio Mainline.
They put on a yearly event to celebrate the town and its heritage as a town, and its relationship to the railroad.
There were a handful of model trains to see, including the Capital Trackers with their O-Scale setup.
The Washington, Virginia, & Maryland Garden Railway Society were also present with a significant display.
There was music and dancing, in which Iva was happy to participate.
And of course, a Railroad Days event would not be remotely complete without train rides.
Yes, Iva, there it is! This ride proudly provided by MARC. Onboard snacks provided by Brunswick High School’s Marching Band, which Mom was naturally happy to support! I’ll just get this out of the way here, and leave you to the photos: The trip was from Brunswick, Maryland, East along the mainline, turning to the South at Point of Rocks, and stopping just past the control point at Bucklodge River. All in all it was about an hour long, 30 minutes each way. The trip involved two tunnels (experienced twice each) and they thoroughly confused Iva — “Where did outside go?? What did you guys do with it? Oh, there it is. Weird.” We all had a good time — at least, much better than the last special train we rode. All in all, it was a good day.
